In honour of ACT Children’s Week, our community came together on Sunday 5 November for a special 30-minute family yoga session that aimed to create not only a sense of unity but also a celebration of the unique ways we acknowledge our children’s milestones. Although five families couldn’t make it due to illness, the energy and joy radiated from those present made it a memorable event.
The theme of our yoga class was centered around ‘birthdays,’ a universal symbol of joy and growth. From the youngest participant at just 6 months old to the elders, everyone joined in the celebration of life through movement and mindfulness.
One of the distinctive aspects of our session was the active involvement of participants in creating the story and poses. This collaborative approach not only made the session more engaging but also allowed everyone to contribute to the shared experience. We explored baking a birthday cake, firefighting, wrapping and opening gifts, playing party games and having fun with our loved ones. The room echoed with laughter and shared creativity as families worked together to bring the ‘birthday’ theme to life through yoga poses and storytelling.
The inclusivity of the event was evident in the diverse age range of attendees. Parents and children of all ages discovered the joy of yoga as a family, reinforcing the idea that well-being is something we can all share and cultivate together.

Hosting this free event for the community was a genuine delight. Beyond the physical benefits of yoga, the session provided a space for families to connect, bond, and experience the positive effects of mindfulness. It was heartening to witness the community come together to support each other in fostering a sense of well-being for both young and old.
As we wrapped up our family yoga session, the smiles on the faces of participants reflected not only the joy of the moment but also the shared commitment to nurturing the health and happiness of our community. This celebration of ACT Children’s Week through yoga exemplified the power of unity, mindfulness, and the simple joy of coming together to celebrate life in all its stages.
