Birthing in the Feminine Way: A Transformational Path for Mothers, Creators, and Women Reclaiming Their Power

Living and Creating From the Feminine: A Conversation with Angela Tonkin

In this episode of the Breathe, Laugh, Parent — The Shine Om Podcast, Rachel sits down with Angela Tonkin — creatress of Birthing in the Feminine Way, feminine embodiment guide, and what she calls a “doula of creation.”

For more than a decade, Angela has supported women and mothers as they move through profound inner shifts, birth new versions of themselves and reclaim their feminine essence. Whether a woman is birthing a baby, a creative project, a business, or a new identity, Angela teaches that the process is cyclical, embodied, and deeply transformative.

This conversation is a journey through feminine embodiment, identity work, nervous system regulation, lineage healing, and the magic that unfolds when women stop forcing life — and begin trusting their inner knowing.

Living from the feminine is not passive. It is powerful, embodied, and deeply intuitive.

What Does It Mean to Birth in the Feminine Way?

Reconnecting With Your Feminine Essence

Angela shares that birthing in the feminine way begins with coming back into the body — out of the mind, out of the conditioned patterns of control, perfectionism, and proving, and into softness, trust, and intuition.

For many women, the feminine has been buried under years of survival mechanisms and societal conditioning. Living from the feminine is not passive. It is powerful, embodied, and deeply intuitive.

Birth as a Portal for Transformation

Through the story of her own birth experience, Angela explains how birth amplifies everything a woman carries — her patterns, her wounds, her strengths, and her subconscious beliefs.

She shares how part of her labour was intensely pleasurable and connected, until a single external comment activated old patterns of forcing, pushing, and self-pressure. This shift created physical resistance in her body, halting the birth.

It was a powerful realisation:
We cause our own suffering when we override our intuition and move from fear or ego.

And this doesn’t just apply to birth — it applies to all creation.

The Feminine Creation Cycle: Birth, Death, Rebirth

The Seed (Birth)

A woman receives a desire, inspiration, or intuitive pull — the seed of what wants to be created.

The Shedding (Death)

Everything that stands in the way of this desire surfaces — old beliefs, wounds, conditioning, inherited patterns. This is often the most confronting stage.

The Becoming (Rebirth)

As a woman releases what no longer aligns, she rises into a new identity and births the version of herself capable of holding her desire.

Angela teaches women that this process is cyclical, embodied, and entirely natural — and that most women are already moving through these cycles, without having language or support for it.

What Women Experience Inside Birthing the Feminine Way

Identity Work: Becoming Who You Desire to Be

One of the core pillars of Angela’s work is identity work.
Women learn to ask:

Who am I being right now?
And who do I desire to become?

Through embodied practices, mindset work, energy work, and structured action steps, women bridge the gap between where they are and who they want to be.

This is where transformation looks practical as well as energetic:

  • Daily rhythms.
  • Self-nourishment.
  • Boundaries.
  • Truth-telling.
  • New habits.
  • Feminine embodiment practices.
  • Nervous system tools.
  • Behavioural shifts.

Releasing Conditioning and Returning Home to Self

Many women in the container discover they are not living from their true selves, but from inherited beliefs, childhood programming, perfectionism, and people-pleasing.

Angela supports women to unravel:

  • Good girl conditioning
  • Need for approval
  • Over-functioning in motherhood
  • Control patterns
  • Fear of letting others down
  • Disconnection from the body, womb, and intuition

This work is deep, powerful, and often emotional — but profoundly liberating.

Healing the Mother Line and Lineage Patterns

Patterns in motherhood often aren’t ours.
They can be inherited through generational trauma, survival mechanisms, and the nervous system responses we absorbed as children.

Angela explains that the body carries memory back up to six generations.

When women begin healing lineage patterns, they interrupt cycles — and pass down something different to their children.

The Power of Sisterhood and Group Work

While some women choose one-on-one mentoring, Angela shares that group work can be even more potent.
In sisterhood, women:

  • Are witnessed in their truth
  • Heal feminine wounds
  • Grow through collective energy
  • Release comparison, judgment and competition
  • Build lifelong support networks

It is a space of authentic expression, emotional safety, and expansion — something many women have never experienced before.

Living Motherhood in the Feminine Way

For mothers, this work can be life-altering.

Rachel shares her own experience of becoming the “flowing mother,” and how:

  • Her triggers softened
  • She parented with more trust and intuition
  • Her children’s behaviour shifted as her inner world shifted
  • Sleep patterns improved when she released control
  • Days with two young children felt spacious, connected, and joyful

The work impacts women, but also their children, their relationships, and their lineage.

The Depth of the Work: Not a Quick Fix, But a True Transformation

Angela is clear that this work is not surface-level.

It is:

  • Nervous system work
  • Trauma-informed emotional processing
  • Embodied feminine practices
  • Energy work
  • Identity work
  • Repatterning lifelong beliefs

It is confronting at times — but it is the path to coming home to yourself.

Women leave with clarity, empowerment, emotional resilience, self-trust, and a new blueprint for living from their feminine essence.
