You Matter Too: A Journaling Practice for Parents

A guided journaling practice for the parent who gives everything — and keeps nothing for themselves

Under 10 minutes. No journal required. Just you, a quiet moment, and permission to feel.

You know that moment at the end of the day when the house finally goes quiet — and instead of relief, you feel… empty?

Like you gave every single piece of yourself away. To the lunches, the meltdowns, the bedtime negotiations, the invisible labour that nobody sees.

And somewhere in there, you stopped asking yourself how you are.

You Matter Too is a gentle, guided journaling practice that gives you permission to pause — even just for a few minutes — and reconnect with the person underneath all the roles you hold.

No fixing. No pressure. No “just be grateful” platitudes.

Just space to breathe, feel, and remember that you are worthy of the same love you give so freely.

Press play, close your eyes, and let yourself be guided through reflective prompts that help you check in with what you actually need — not what everyone else needs from you.

  • A guided audio practice you can do anywhere — in bed, on the couch, in the car before school pickup
  • Under 10 minutes, so it fits into the cracks of your day (even the tiny ones)
  • Reflective prompts to reconnect with your own needs, desires, and sense of self
  • No journal needed — just listen and let the words land where they need to
  • Created by a mum who gets it — because I needed this practice too

“I didn’t realise how disconnected I’d become from myself until I pressed play. I cried — not because it was sad, but because someone finally asked me how I was feeling. This practice gave me something I didn’t know I was missing.”

— L.M., mum of three

Rachel Whytcross - Shine Om

Hi, I’m Rach

I’m a mindful parenting educator, yoga teacher, and mum. I created Shine Om because I believe that when parents are supported, the whole family thrives. I’ve worked with thousands of families across Australia through workshops, meditation practices, and The Joyful Parenting Project — my signature 12-week program for parents who want more calm, connection, and joy in family life. This journaling practice was born from my own experience of losing myself in motherhood — and slowly finding my way back.
